Backing up your data
While there are numerous utilities out there to backup
your hard drives to tape, or other media types, we like to recommend a simple DOS batch
file that will do the following...

- Copy your GoldMine data into
temporary folders.
- ZIP up that data, and give it a filename
that is unique, using the computer date and time, such as... "20021225-0800.ZIP"
for 8:00am, Christmas day, 2002.
- Keep a log of each time its run.

The reasons why I like this type of approach
is that the
ability to access your backup is simple and fast. It's completely self-contained, so
you don't have to contact the network administrator to get the data restored. It can
be run while people are logged into GoldMine, and can be automated to run at any time
of day. And you only need an unzip utility (like Winzip) to access the backup data.
